SM BLOOD DRIVES YIELD LIFESAVING DONATIONS IN NORTH METRO

More than a hundred volunteers rolled up their sleeves at SM City Grand Central, SM Center Sangandaan, and SM City Valenzuela, taking part in blood donation drives held ahead of the Holy Week observance.

Organized in partnership with the Department of Health’s Philippine Blood Center (PBC), SM Foundation Inc. (SMFI), and SM’s Medical Services Division, the one-day initiative resulted in 129 eligible donors successfully completing the screening process and contributing lifesaving blood donations. The activity is part of a broader campaign supporting the National Blood Services Act of 1994 (RA 7719), which promotes voluntary blood donation and ensures the availability of safe blood for patients in need across the nation.

Mary Grace Batoon, a nurse stationed at SM City Grand Central, highlighted the life-saving impact of each donation. “Each unit of blood can be separated into red blood cells, plasma, and platelets, which can be transfused to multiple patients based on their individual needs,” she explained. “Every unit counts. Even a single donation can save multiple lives,” Batoon added.
The initiative also highlights the health benefits of voluntary blood donation for donors, including lower risk of heart and liver disease and enhanced blood cell regeneration.

SM Malls plans to continue these efforts throughout the year, inviting communities to participate in life-saving initiatives and help meet the nation’s ongoing need for safe and adequate blood supply in the country.
