Three SM malls
in Valenzuela and Caloocan joined the nationwide “O.N.E.: Oras Natin sa
Efficiency” campaign on Monday, May 25, by switching off non-essential lights
from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. in support of the Department of Energy’s (DOE) energy
conservation initiative.
SM City Grand
Central, SM Center Sangandaan, and SM City Valenzuela participated in the
O.N.E. Challenge, which encourages Filipinos to practice energy-saving habits
through collective action.
The campaign,
led by the DOE in partnership with SM Supermalls, promotes efficient energy use
by urging establishments and households to switch off non-essential lights and
unplug unused appliances for one hour. The initiative was officially launched
at the SM Mall of Asia as part of a nationwide call for sustainability and
energy conservation.
During the
one-hour switch-off, the participating malls dimmed or turned off selected
lighting systems, including mall signages, façades, pylon towers, landscapes,
dropdown banners, and portions of hallway and lobby lighting, while ensuring
uninterrupted mall operations and essential services.
The O.N.E.
campaign, which stands for “One Hour, One Energy, One Nation,” highlights how
simple everyday actions can create a significant collective impact in
protecting the environment and conserving resources.
Through the #SMGreenMovement, SM Supermalls reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability by supporting programs that promote energy efficiency and environmental responsibility in communities nationwide.
