When BOOX announced the Tappy, I honestly thought it was just another reading accessory. A cute one, sure—but something that would probably end up forgotten in a drawer after the novelty wore off.
After spending time with it, I can confidently say I was wrong.
The BOOX Tappy is a compact Bluetooth page turner designed for BOOX e-readers and ePaper tablets running Firmware V4.2 or later. Instead of constantly reaching for the screen, a simple button press lets you flip pages, scroll content, or control media playback depending on the selected mode. BOOX officially lists compatibility with devices such as the Palma 2 Pro, Note Air5 C, and other Bluetooth-enabled BOOX devices running Firmware V4.2 or newer.

First Impressions
The first thing that caught my attention wasn't the functionality—it was the design.
Unlike most page turners that look purely utilitarian, the Tappy feels playful. The retro-inspired design, compact size, and interchangeable keycaps give it a personality that most reading accessories lack. Mine came in Sage Green, currently the color most easily available locally, though BOOX also offers Summer Orange, Romantic Purple, and Misty Blue variants in other markets.
The included heart and coffee cup keycaps add a fun touch that fits perfectly into a cozy reading setup. Sitting beside an e-reader and a favorite book, it feels less like a gadget and more like part of the reading experience.
A Better Reading Experience
The biggest advantage of the Tappy is comfort.
Whether you're reading in bed, lounging on the couch, or using a stand for your e-reader, being able to turn pages without touching the screen feels surprisingly convenient. The device connects wirelessly through Bluetooth and supports multiple operating modes including Reading Mode, Browsing Mode, and Multimedia Mode.
For long reading sessions, that small convenience adds up.
No more constantly shifting your grip. No more reaching across the screen every few pages. Just click and continue reading.
My Compatibility Testing
One of the biggest questions people have is whether the Tappy works outside the BOOX ecosystem.
BOOX states that the device is compatible with BOOX devices running Firmware V4.2 or later, but it can also pair with other Bluetooth-enabled devices. Actual functionality, however, varies depending on the device and software support.
So far, these are my personal test results:
✅ Working
- BOOX Palma 2 Pro
- BOOX Go Color 7 Gen 2
- Bigme B7 Pro
⚠️ Connects but Page Turning Doesn't Work
- Kobo Libra 2
- Kobo Clara Colour
The Kobo devices successfully pair with the Tappy, but page-turn functionality did not work during my testing.
I'll continue updating this list as I test additional devices.
Is It Worth It?
If you already own a compatible BOOX device, the answer is easy: yes.
The Tappy isn't a necessity, but it quickly becomes one of those accessories that makes reading more enjoyable. It's small enough to carry anywhere, simple enough to use immediately, and cute enough that you'll probably want it sitting beside your e-reader.
For readers who spend hours with their e-ink devices, those tiny quality-of-life improvements make a noticeable difference.
And if you're someone who appreciates cozy reading setups, aesthetic accessories, and collecting e-reader gadgets, the BOOX Tappy might end up being one of your favorite additions this year.
